This is My Street

St Helens Road belongs to everyone, and we tried to capture the shared joy of mutual attachment to place, neighbourhood and community by gathering recordings and images of people speaking and writing ‘This is My Street’ in multiple languages. Our intention was to echo the example set by the local primary school whose motto is ‘all different, all equal’. There are currently 32 languages in daily use at the school, and with the help of our partners we identified the 10 principal languages spoken on St Helens Road. These have been incorporated into our Pattern Project and painted on sites along the street.
