Everyday Poetry
Artist and poet Alan Whitfield worked with different groups on the street, spending many hours wandering the neighbourhood and striking up conversations with passers-by. He posed questions about everyday life on St Helens Road to people who claimed they couldn’t write poetry, and wove poetic observations about the street into a traditional game of bingo. Using prompts from shopping lists to graffiti to the weather to favourite foods, Alan gently encouraged people to express themselves in writing, with beautiful results.
